How to Choose the Best TH16 Farming Base
A TH16 farming base is designed mainly for resource protection.
The goal is to make Gold, Elixir and Dark Elixir harder to reach while still
keeping enough defensive coverage to slow common raids.
The best TH16 farming layout for your village depends on which
resource you are saving. A player protecting Dark Elixir for upgrades may need
a different layout from a player saving Gold for defenses or Elixir for troops,
pets, walls or other progression.
Farming layouts are different from war, Legend League and anti-3-star bases.
They can allow some outside percentage or collector damage if that trade-off
keeps the most valuable storages harder to reach. No farming layout can prevent
all loot loss, but a well-chosen design can make the most profitable routes
more expensive for attackers.
Protect Storages First
Storages hold the main loot value, so they should not all sit along one easy attack route. Spread Gold, Elixir and Dark Elixir across defended compartments so one entry cannot reach everything.
Storage separation only works when each area has real defensive coverage. Isolated storages with no support can still become easy loot.
Use Collectors Carefully
Mines, collectors and drills can shape funnels or distract troops, but full collectors also make a raid more profitable.
Do not leave every full resource building completely exposed. Keep selected collectors under defensive range, especially when they are holding a large amount of loot.
Separate Dark Elixir Access
Dark Elixir is often one of the most important resources to protect at Town Hall 16. Place the Dark Elixir Storage away from short Hero dives, direct Battle Blimp paths and easy ground entries.
Avoid grouping the Dark Elixir Storage with every other high-value objective, because one successful push may then collect too much value.
Make Loot Routes Expensive
Attackers should need a meaningful troop, Hero, spell or Siege Machine commitment to reach the best storage compartments.
If one side gives easy collectors, the Town Hall, Dark Elixir and several storages together, the layout may be too profitable to raid.
What Makes a TH16 Farming Layout Different?
A farming base is judged by how much valuable loot it protects across repeated raids. Stars and trophies still matter in some situations, but they are not the main priority of this category.
In regular Battles, players can farm resources without risking trophies. That makes farming layouts especially useful when you want to protect resources while continuing upgrades.
A farming base can still use serious defensive logic. Town Hall placement, merged defenses, Spell Towers, the Monolith, Air Sweepers and traps should all support storage protection instead of being arranged only for appearance.
Different from Hybrid Bases
A hybrid layout balances resources and defensive results. A farming layout gives stronger priority to loot protection, even if that means accepting some outside percentage or a lower trophy-defense focus.
Different from War Bases
A war base is built for fully planned attacks. A farming base is built for repeated resource raids, including partial clears, Hero entries, Blimp attempts and quick loot grabs.
Choose the Resource You Want to Protect Most
Before copying a TH16 farming base, decide which resource matters most right now. The best layout can change as your upgrade priority changes.
Dark Elixir Priority
Protect the Dark Elixir Storage from short edge entries, direct Blimp routes and easy Hero dives. Place it where attackers must commit more than a few cheap troops to reach it.
Do not place it beside every other storage if that creates one highly profitable attack path.
Gold Priority
Spread Gold Storages across defended compartments. This is useful when saving for defenses, walls or expensive building upgrades.
Avoid one side of the village giving attackers several Gold Storages and a clean route toward the Town Hall.
Elixir Priority
Elixir Storages should be separated from each other and from the easiest outside path. Use defensive coverage and storage hitpoints to slow troops.
Balanced Resource Priority
When all resources matter, avoid stacking every storage in the same area. Divide loot across several compartments so attackers must choose which resource route to pursue.
How to Arrange Storages in a TH16 Farming Base
Storage placement should make the most profitable route difficult. Storages can also work as high-hitpoint buffers that slow troops while nearby defenses keep firing.
Spread Storage Value
Place storages across different sides or layers of the village. One Hero entry, Battle Blimp or ground push should not reach every important storage.
Avoid One Perfect Loot Lane
Do not create a straight route that connects collectors, storages, the Dark Elixir Storage and the Town Hall. This gives attackers a simple plan with too much reward.
Use Storages as Defensive Buffers
Storage hitpoints can delay Miners, Heroes, Root Riders, Dragons or other troops while nearby defenses continue applying pressure.
Buffers work best when they protect something important rather than sitting alone on an undefended edge.
Keep Some Loot behind Layers
The most valuable resource compartments should require attackers to break through multiple defensive layers or commit a specific Siege Machine plan.
Using the TH16 Town Hall in a Farming Base
Town Hall 16 uses the Giga Inferno and creates a poison effect after destruction. In a farming layout, the Town Hall can help protect a storage route, but it should not be grouped with every valuable resource.
A Town Hall-centered design can make attackers spend more resources reaching the middle, but an overloaded core may allow one Battle Blimp or main push to collect the Town Hall, Dark Elixir and several key defenses together.
- Protect valuable routes: use the Town Hall to support a storage or Dark Elixir approach.
- Avoid one overloaded core: do not place every storage and major defense beside the Town Hall.
- Preserve defenses after the Town Hall falls: attackers should still face pressure if they commit to the center.
- Review direct Blimp access: check whether one delivery can collect the Town Hall and key loot together.
Using TH16 Merged Defenses for Resource Protection
TH16 merged defenses concentrate more value into fewer buildings. Their placement should support important storage routes, not sit where one entry can remove them together with the most valuable loot.
Multi-Archer Tower Coverage
Multi-Archer Towers can target multiple enemies and hit both ground and air troops. Use them to protect storage routes, Dark Elixir access or the back-end section of the village.
Avoid placing both Multi-Archer Towers where one push removes them with several storages.
Ricochet Cannon Routes
Ricochet Cannons are ground-focused merged defenses. Their placement should support likely Root Rider, Miner, Hog Rider, Hero or Smash routes toward storage compartments.
Do not isolate them on low-value edges unless that placement supports a specific funnel or bait idea.
Protecting against Battle Blimp Loot Routes
A Battle Blimp can target the Town Hall, Dark Elixir Storage, Spell Towers or a compact storage section. Farming layouts should avoid giving one delivery too much resource and defensive value.
Separate Landing-Zone Value
One successful Blimp should not collect the Town Hall, Dark Elixir Storage, several storages and major defenses together.
Cover Direct and Diagonal Paths
Review approaches from every side. The shortest Blimp path is not always the path attackers choose when chasing loot.
Use Layered Air Pressure
Seeking Air Mines, Air Bombs, Air Sweepers, the Tornado Trap and defensive towers should influence several likely delivery routes.
Do Not Depend on One Trap
Attackers may support a Blimp with spells, Hero abilities or equipment. A farming base should not rely on one air trap beside the Town Hall.
Planning against Root Rider and Ground Loot Raids
Root Riders target defenses and can open walls, so a TH16 farming base should avoid placing storages and defenses along one direct ground route.
Break Straight Storage Routes
Do not place the Town Hall, Dark Elixir, Monolith, merged defenses and several storages along one clear defensive path.
A ground army should need to change direction or spend additional support to reach the next valuable compartment.
Use Offset Compartments
Offset walls and varied compartment sizes can separate the main army from support troops or pull the push away from the best loot.
Avoid random gaps that accidentally create easier access to storages.
Place Traps by Target Order
Miners and Hog Riders move between defensive targets. Place Giant Bombs and Spring Traps according to likely movement near valuable storage routes.
Protect the Final Storage Section
Keep at least one valuable resource area protected by remaining defenses after the first entry is completed.
Planning against Air Farming Raids
Air raids may use Dragons, Electro Dragons, Balloons, flying Heroes or a Battle Blimp to reach the Town Hall and storages. A TH16 farming layout should preserve air-targeting pressure around more than one resource section.
Protect Air Defenses and Sweepers
One Hero entry should not remove an Air Defense, Air Sweeper, Multi-Archer Tower and a valuable storage route together.
Reduce Electro Dragon Chain Value
Separate important storages and defenses enough to reduce repeated chain value. Avoid excessive spacing that gives easy cleanup around the edge.
Preserve Back-End Air Damage
Air Defenses, Inferno Towers, Multi-Archer Towers, traps and defending Heroes should continue applying pressure after the first air section falls.
Review Balloon Paths
Balloons move between defensive targets. Place Air Bombs and other pressure where Balloons are likely to gather while moving toward storage areas.
Recommended Trap Principles for TH16 Farming Bases
Traps in farming bases should protect likely loot routes. Do not place traps beside storages only because those buildings hold resources; follow troop, Hero and Siege Machine movement.
- Giant Bombs on ground loot paths: place them where Miners, Hog Riders or support troops are likely to move near valuable storages.
- Spring Traps on important crossings: current Spring Traps target one qualifying troop, so place them where that disruption can affect timing or movement.
- Seeking Air Mines on Blimp routes: cover probable paths toward the Town Hall, Dark Elixir Storage or compact resource sections.
- Air Bombs on grouped flight paths: position them where Balloons or other flying troops are likely to gather.
- Tornado Trap near active defenses: use its delay where nearby towers can continue attacking a Blimp, Hero group or main army.
- Skeleton Trap modes: choose ground or air according to the route and resource area being defended.
- Preserve back-end traps: keep some trap pressure for troops that survive the first storage compartment.
How to Compare TH16 Farming Layouts
Do not choose a farming layout only because every storage appears central. Compare how much loot each realistic entry can reach and how much commitment the attacker needs to collect it.
- Choose your resource priority: decide whether Dark Elixir, Gold, Elixir or balanced protection matters most.
- Review storage separation: one entry should not expose every valuable storage.
- Check Dark Elixir access: inspect Hero, Blimp and ground routes toward the storage.
- Review collector exposure: full collectors can make a raid profitable even when storages survive.
- Inspect Town Hall access: one Blimp or short push should not collect the Town Hall and main loot together.
- Review merged-defense placement: check whether Multi-Archer Towers and Ricochet Cannons protect important routes.
- Check Spell Tower and Monolith separation: one entry should not remove every high-value defense around the loot.
- Inspect Air Sweeper directions: make sure they influence realistic Blimp and air approaches.
- Review trap distribution: traps should protect several likely loot routes rather than one obvious compartment.
- Check the back end: at least one valuable resource section should remain difficult to reach after the opening.
How to Use TH16 Farming Copy Links
Select a TH16 farming base copy link to open the design in the Clash of Clans Layout Editor. Confirm that every available building, defense, wall and trap has been placed before saving the layout.
After copying, review Gold, Elixir and Dark Elixir Storage positions, collector exposure, Town Hall placement, merged-defense placement, Air Sweeper directions, Inferno Tower modes, Spell Tower settings, Skeleton Trap modes and trap positions.
Check whether newly upgraded or previously unplaced buildings remain outside the layout. Missing buildings can change spacing, troop pathing, storage protection and resource exposure.
Confirm that the copied design is selected as the active defensive layout for the mode you are using. Saving a base in the editor does not always mean the correct defensive slot is active.
A working one-tap copy link makes installation easier, but it does not prove that the layout has undergone controlled testing or that it will protect the same amount of loot for every player.
Using Defense Logs, Magic Shields and Revenge
Review several regular defenses before judging a farming layout. One raid may not show the full resource-protection pattern.
Magic Shields can protect resources after regular Battle defenses, and Revenge may allow you to recover resources from qualifying raids. These features help farming progress, but they do not replace good storage placement and defensive structure.
- Track repeated loot routes: identify whether attackers keep entering from the same side.
- Separate regular and Ranked results: farming performance should be judged mainly from resource-focused raids.
- Review Dark Elixir losses: repeated Dark Elixir access may require a storage or wall adjustment.
- Check collector losses: full outside collectors can make a raid profitable even when storages survive.
- Use Revenge carefully: it can help recover resources, but the farming layout should still reduce repeated easy routes.
Common TH16 Farming Base Mistakes
- Stacking every storage together: one successful push may collect most available loot.
- Ignoring Dark Elixir routes: short Hero dives or Blimps may reach the most valuable storage too cheaply.
- Leaving every collector exposed: full collectors can create profitable raids without a deep entry.
- Creating an overloaded core: one Battle Blimp or central push may remove the Town Hall, storages and major defenses together.
- Protecting only the Town Hall: attackers may ignore it and take storage loot elsewhere.
- Grouping merged defenses with all loot: one route may remove defenses and resources together.
- Ignoring Root Rider paths: one direct ground route may carry the army through several storage compartments.
- Ignoring Air Sweeper directions: the main Blimp or air loot route may remain unpressured.
- Placing traps randomly: traps should follow realistic troop, Hero and Siege Machine movement.
- Using outdated Spring Trap assumptions: Spring Traps now target one qualifying troop rather than launching an entire group.
- Replacing the layout after one raid: review repeated losses before rebuilding the full base.
When Should You Change a TH16 Farming Layout?
Change the layout when several defenses show the same profitable route. Examples include repeated Dark Elixir access, one easy Blimp path, a straight Root Rider route through storages or full collectors being taken safely around the edge.
Start with one focused adjustment. Move one storage, protect a collector group, change an Air Sweeper direction, adjust a wall opening, separate two valuable objectives or redistribute one trap group.
Review additional defenses after the change. Confirm that the adjustment reduces the repeated loot route without making another resource area too easy to reach.
Should You Rotate TH16 Farming Bases?
Rotation can help when the same loot route appears repeatedly or when your resource priority changes. A base used while saving Dark Elixir may not be the best choice when Gold or Elixir becomes the main priority.
Do not rotate only because one attacker collected loot. Farming bases reduce repeated profitable routes; they do not eliminate every possible resource loss.
How These TH16 Farming Layouts Are Reviewed
Layouts may be community-submitted or editorially reviewed for their Town Hall level, visible structure, farming-category relevance, image quality and copy-link availability. Review may include storage distribution, Dark Elixir access, collector exposure, Town Hall route, merged-defense placement, Blimp paths and likely ground routes.
Publication does not automatically mean that a layout has undergone controlled battle testing or that it will protect the same amount of loot for every player. Any layout specifically described as tested should be supported by documented defensive records and a clear testing process.
Read the layout review methodology for information about submissions, editorial checks, corrections and testing labels.
